Do you ever look up and realize that you’ve accomplished something without noticing at first? This week I accomplished a feat! I reached my 100th week in a row on Peloton. As the minutes and half-hours turn into days and then weeks, I didn’t realize that I was on the verge of hitting my 100th consecutive week of exercise with the Peloton platform! As exciting as it is, I wasn’t focused on it because I had my head down and was just taking one day at a time. Of course some weeks I had more days of exercise than others, but nonetheless I did a bike ride or run every week for 100 weeks straight. Peloton as a platform has a great way of recognizing and celebrating members who hit this feat. It feels good, but the work doesn’t stop here. It just gives me motivation to make myself better and better over the course of the next 100 rides or runs on my way to 200!
I want to devote a section of this to my #1 Peloton instructor and coach, Alex Toussaint. I have been inspired and motivated by him weekly for sure, if not almost daily. Out of 371 rides total, there are less than 10 that I’ve done where he hasn’t been my instructor. I’ve doubled and tripled up classes from him because I get so much out of them. I always hear quotes during my rides and jot them down as fast as I can. One that I often think about and hold true is, “Today‘s ceiling is tomorrow’s floor.” I love that because when you exercise to make yourself better, you are stronger and a better version of yourself than you were yesterday. Your high achievements today set the baseline for you to build off tomorrow. AT often says that you don’t come here to work out, you come here to out work! You can show up and get some exercise in a work out and call it a day, or you can “out work” those around you and push the limits of what you think you’re capable of.
Lately, AT talks a lot about sacrifices. Making sacrifices to create a better version of yourself. When you wake up early, you’re sacrificing sleep but you’re also given the opportunity to better yourself with that extra time in the morning. Maybe you exercise. Maybe you read a book. Maybe you start working before normal business hours. But regardless of what you do, when you give yourself that extra time, there is a chance for an opportunity if you allow there to be. Be thankful that you woke up this morning and know that it is a blessing, because not everyone is that fortunate. That is an opportunity in itself. “If you got life, that means you got motion today!” -AT
